In the BMX scene today, across the world, it has become a very progressive place, setting the stage for a higher level of skill that can be daunting to some riders evolving their own talents and styles. Yet, we see great events like Texas Toast bringing us all together, and now multiple BMX shops are hosting annual street rides that can bring the masses closer to all the action they love, live, and breathe...BMX! Street Fighter does just that bringing locals, pros, and friends together to help us all remember what it's like to have fun in the midst of all of this competition.

Originally started by the "Destruction Krew" of the greater Phoenix area, consisting of the trio Jeremy 'Zuka" Hacker, Robbie 'digital' Owen, and Clay Johnson. Forming this jam was simply an idea to start something unique to the PHX scene that has yet to happen, to bring more fun to the streets! Starting in 2008 and running for three years until 2010, this jam was fueled by 40 oz. prizes and great support from the sponsors, creating an atmosphere where everyone felt accepted no matter what! The jam was put on hold until this year and it came back with a bang, over 200 hundred riders from all over came to be a part of the fun, we pedaled miles across Phoenix only to end the night with an awesome Deck Park party and prize give away! Thanks to everyone who made this event happen and let's keep this movement going!

In the world of BMX today, there seems to be a bit of tug-of-war going on between the progressive new school and the ever grounded old school and mid-school. The battle begins at the starting point, each side of the fence believes that their grass is the greenest and bares no water for their neighbors. Here lies the problem. One cannot exist without the other. The progressive riding of the new school comes from the elders of our industry, the foundation has been laid out for us all to learn from and pay homage toward, in hopes of breaking through limitations set by those amazing riders of yesterday. Limits are meant to be broken and traditions are meant to be kept sacred. The only way we can keep our industry strong and vibrant with longevity is to support ourselves and those who do what they do best... ride BMX and have a great time doing it! If you follow this simplicity, which I truly believe we all have experienced once upon a bicycle, we will strengthen our friends and family within BMX, in turn become one.

This is what I see in a family called, Blunted Athletics. This team is made up of an ever growing group of friends, Lahsaan Kobza, Tammy McCarley, Matty Nothnagle, Aaron Maxwell, Robbie Owen, Clay Johnson and Matt Closson! Among these 7 individuals there is a large following of riders and friends that make up a collective attitude that BMX needs now more than ever! Support for one another based simply on the fact that we all ride bikes and want to have fun and continue doing so regardless of fan base, popularity and even sponsorships. I caught up with the main man Lahsaan to get an in depth voice to what BLNTD is all about, along with words from the whole team... See why these guys love what they do and how they benefit from having friends and family within BMX.

When you're visiting a new city to ride, it seems as though without even trying the city will shine down it’s true colors in no time. Learning the area first hand and keeping in mind rumors you may or may not believe, to possibly get a sense of what to expect from this unknown terrain… Next thing you know, your right in the middle of some antics, which confirm or deny what you were thinking. Take Albuquerque for instance, it is a city full of rumors, which doesn't necessarily positively reinforce the good name of the most largely populated city in New Mexico. Never the less, it's all about personal experience, right? Well for this specific trip, the Mutiny team came through town for 10 days and definitely found out first hand what this place is all about! Dealing with the spring weather of wind and rain during the month of April, Mutiny found themselves in a classic episode of the critically acclaimed T.V. series, 'Breaking Bad', on any given street corner all over the city there is an abundance of homelessness, drug addicts and crazed individuals such as a certain motel owner trying to pick a fight with Navaz for being a simple 'tourist'..

How do you write an accurate story about a town you grew up in, about a bunch of guys who haven’t ever been to that particular city before, to portray their experience first hand? Well, it seems as my observations would be somewhat biased, so I thought to properly convey the whirlpool of an experience such as this Mutiny Trip in Albuquerque, I would look through the eyes of some of those who the trip impacted the most, the riders… Justin Simpson, Andy Martinez, Jeff Wescott, Mariano Santiago and Grant Castelluzzo.

When you get the opportunity to spend time with a group of riders like these on the road for weeks on end, you begin to feel like a part of their family in a way. Watching the team evolve together and witnessing their own individual growth as well, makes you appreciate the side of bike riding that may be forgotten by some, just having a good time riding with your friends. Working with these guys on'What Could Go Wrong?', the latest video from The Shadow Conspiracy, made me forget that I was on an assignment and reminded me why I got into BMX in the first place. With 100-plus premieres across the globe in just a three day weekend it’s fair to say this project has taken the BMX world by storm so take a look at the good times had over the 3 years of filming which created this epic DVD - through blood, sweat, tears, broken cameras and of course a few broken bones.

'What Could Go Wrong?' is available in select countries via iTunes and on DVD worldwide through any Shadow supported shop, mail order, and their online store.

I've known Morgan Long for a few years now and I have seen his riding get better and better... and better. Each time we ride he continues to surprise me with his choice in set-ups too, which is so unique especially out riding street. I had the chance to catch up with Morgan while he took a short trip to New Mexico to clock some footage for his new FIT frame promo. I haven't seen him in over a year and it was great to see he's still the same ol' Morgan I left back in Long Beach, California. When I heard he was coming out with a new signature frame and bar for FIT I honestly wasn't surprised that he has been given this opportunity. Being the first out of four new FIT pro riders to receive a signature line definitely speaks for itself. Through determination and sheer talent, Morgan brings you his newest baby, The FIT HOODBIRD!

Th Ryan Chadwick Interview

Th Ryan Chadwick Interview

www.TheShadowConspiracy.com

As I grew up, Ryan Chadwick wasn't a filmer I knew through trade as one of those dudes who made the videos I watched as a kid. Rather, I began to learn about him as a colleague and grew to have appreciation for his hard working, no-bullshit attitude that came with a chuckle and a smile. It takes a lot to become a film maker and maybe even more to stay humble with your own work as an 'artist' of any sort.

Throughout the duration of filming for The Shadow Conspiracy's 'What Could Go Wrong?', I viewed Chadwick's ways as a team manager first and a filmer second... yet, his filming never skipped a beat. Responsibilities such as these could weigh on a person, but Ryan does his job flawlessly. At the age of 29 he has been filming for at least 15 years and produced videos all the while, including Arizona scene videos, I Got Work and I Got Work - Strikes Back. Chadwick has been working for The Shadow Conspiracy for the past five years and I have had the pleasure of working with him for half of that time. You can't produce a product like 'WCGW' without an artistic eye and the hard fact of knowing what you are actually doing. Opinions are all over the board about the state of DVD's today but it is important that products like this still come out. And guaranteed, kids will want to know who filmed this one!

Simone Barraco, Trey Jones, Seth Kimbrough and Joris Coloumb make up a solid yet diverse selection within the Shadow team and their riding styles are as different as their home towns are apart. Hailing from France and Italy in Europe, to the states of Arizona and Florida in the USA these guys represent some of the newest and most experienced riders who made up part of that heavy mix of team riders in the new 'What Could Go Wrong?'' DVD. As we all know though, wether you’re In front of the camera or behind the scenes, there is a lot more to filming a full video section coming than just perfect sunny days and getting away with every clip injury free. We’ll let the Pros take it from here…

The Importance of Keeping It Local

The Importance of Keeping It Local

First there comes an idea, then comes the motivation to fuel that idea… A little twist of fate and the right recipe for success, Ronnie Bonner has spent years working hard to accomplish a goal that is common amongst his supporters, staff, and riders and as a whole, his family. BMX is something we all start with at home and can take us all over the world.

For 'the kids', getting a chance to ride with their favorite pros has usually been an relatively unobtainable goal, but a few years ago Ronnie and his team set out to help change just that by bringing BMX to the people via the The Shadow Conspiracy and a series of worldwide events called the Keep It Local (K.I.L.) Tours.

To find out more, we caught up with Ron and Shadow’s TM Chadwick at their recent Sparky’s Night Jam held with a select bunch of their Pro team the night before an event for the locals on home soil, where it all began.

The Street Series x BMXDAY Photo Gallery

The Street Series partnered up with Dakota Roche (Cult / Vans / Dans / Cinema) in Los Angeles, California to bring you another hefty slice of BMXDAY and DIG was there to cover all of the day's goodness. We started the cruise at Hollenbeck skate plaza and raised hell from spot to spot all the way into downtown where we ended the session at the famous LAPD station handrail. All day long there were plumes of smoke covering the greater LA area, caused by a structure fire raging in Downtown which made for an unforgettable bike ride!

We all ended the day by gathering around the corner from Thee Block in West Hollywood to eat, drink and ride in a private parking lot. Followed up with a video premiere of The Common Crew's brand new DVD, Monster Mash and the infamous 'BMX' movie 'RAD'. There was even an appearance from RAD's Bill Allen, aka the (faux) legendary 'Cru Jones'.

Hundreds of riders came out to support the cause and have a great time. Thee Block personel were on hand to map the spots and keep the crew moving safely through the busy streets of LA. Enjoy all the antics in this blend of photos from Wes McGrathChris Mortensen and Justin Butts.

Congrats to FIT Bike Co's Ethan Corriere for taking home The Street Series ring in Los Angeles and thanks to everyone who came out to support and enjoy the day, wherever you where in the world.

Well after I lost a great percentage of images in a recent hard drive crash I have been searching high and low for photos to regain my archive. So this Gallery is lacking a few gems I would've loved you to see today, but I guess that's a lesson learned in this digital age! On the brighter side this BMX stuff doesn't slow down at all, so cheers to everyone who I've shot with and will continue to work along side! From LA to Austin Texas here is a group of photos that I am very happy to share with you today and no matter what memories last a lifetime!

Tony Malouf and Jeff Wescott in Puerto Rico

Tony Malouf and Jeff Wescott in Puerto Rico

www.DIGBMX.com

Puerto Rico is an Island located off the southeast tip of Florida, a part of the Caribbean Island chain with a population of over 3.5 million people. Even so you don''t feel as if you're in the United States (it is 'an unincorporated territory of the US'), but it's more like the feeling of being in a foreign country. Staying outside of the main metropolitan areas of the Island, such as San Juan, we decided somewhat by default to keep to ourselves in the smaller parts of the island. Mainly spending time in Cayey and Ponce (yep), we soon developed an interest in staying under the radar in small town neighborhoods to seek out the spots that were out of the ordinary and we certainly weren't short-changed. Through our 11 days of pedaling and sight seeing I found my memory cards filled with culture and memories to share, I wish I could fully express the experience we had in Puerto Rico, but if this gallery doesn't do it for ya, well then maybe someday you'll be able to buy yourself a plane ticket! Check Out Malouf's BSD Beverage edit below and look for some exclusive content here on DIG from Mutiny's Jeff Wescott soon...

Well I have to say the best part of shooting BMX is when a photo feels as good as the actual action of the subject! Sharing that moment in time with old time friends that have been there from the beginning… Through broken flashes, lights that don't pop, days of uncharged batteries and bad trigger timing, my friends have been through thick and thin with my journey through learning photography first hand. We learned side by side, the first time they landed a trick was the first time I had a chance to shoot that specific move, we crashed together and we landed it together. To all my Albuquerque homies I am forever grateful to you for where I am in this moment!

To all my homies who aren't apart of this gallery, you know your just as worthy as the rest... Vidal Vigil, Gil Montoya, Chris Foehse, Andres Velasco, Matt Gannon, Robbie Owen, Clay Johnson, and Jeremy "Zuka" Hacker all showed me the way. Through it all you guys taught me how to appreciate the small window of life bmx has to offer and this shit isn't over yet!
